Monday, June 28, 2010 (from my journal)
The call to prayer sounds this evening from a nearby mosque, echoing over Nairobi, droning over and over again, “God is great,” and so He is.
And I respond to the call to prayer – not as if I needed another call – as if I didn’t already have one today as I walked through the slums of Kibera and it’s many alleyways, looking among shanties and in between streams of sewage and garbage, excited to hear the laughter coming from the tiny souls I’ve come to love so much already.
I prayed, aware afresh of my utter dependence on Him-
Father, teach me and teach us all what lived-out dependence on You looks like, that we would really walk with You. Remind us again and again of Your greatness, in revelation that echoes through the streets of Nairobi, stirring hearts in Your praise.
